LAGAWE, IFUGAO- – Tourism is playing an increasingly important role in Asipulo town, and Barangay Pula is the place to visit this summer as it holds its fiesta on April 2 and 3.
This fun-filled festivity surely pulls more surprises to visitors. Making the fiesta more exciting is the holding of a number of activities for folks- young and old alike.
Pula Barangay Council officials are spearheading the preparations of the fiesta. Assisting them are officials of the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Pula is largely a farming village. Agro-tourism holds a lot of promises for villagers. There are destinations for tourists to explore. By late afternoon it’s easy enough to get a view of the sunset. Thus, Pula tourism means choices. So grab one!
During the fiesta, it is not hard to make new friends. Folks are friendly and hospitable.
The foundation for Pula’s distinct warmth character was certainly laid over several decades ago.
Former mayor Eladio Bang-ud is a proud son of the barangay.
Today, he still finds joy and fulfillment in farming.
He continues to work with farmers in implementing better and effective practices and give them advices to obtain enough resources for efficient farming.
“I shall always support natural farming,” Bang-ud told the ZigZag Weekly.
“May the Lord endlessly bless out farmers here and all others in Asipulo,” he added.
For short, one that is organic, ecological and harmonized with the natural environment.
Before, during and even after Barangay Pula fiesta, one thing is already very clear. As one look to the future, he or she should simply look to the conditions of the people. A promise of life of dignity, security and comfort for a villager and loved ones. There is truth to this assertion since poverty incidence is high in the village and across the town.
Bang-ud, a tireless and dedicated chief executive during his tenure, know this only too well.
While Bang-ud strongly supports the idea of constructing a communal irrigation system in the barangay. He is also an advocate for initiatives that promote and strengthen indigenous knowledge. His advocacy to promote indigenous people’s rights and welfare is widely recognized in Ifugao. Folks are glad it is receiving overwhelming support from sectoral leaders. **By Anthony A. Araos
