LAGAYAN, Abra – Residents of Barangay Poblacion held a Bayanihan activity to fast-track the construction of a drainage canal in Sitio Daya and Sitio Put-ik.
The subproject is implemented under the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD FO CAR) KALAHI-CIDSS (Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services) Program – Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay-Community-Driven Development (KKB-CDD) modality.
Identified through the community’s Participatory Situational Analysis (PSA)–a process where residents themselves assess and identify the most pressing problems in their barangay– the subproject is seen as a solution to the lack of a proper drainage system , which caused flooding and stagnant water during heavy rains and affected the safety, health, and daily activities of residents.
Construction started on 15 June 2026 and will benefit 102 households once completed.
Farming season had slowed down manpower in the barangay, delaying the project’s progress. To sustain the momentum, residents came together to revive the bayanihan spirit and push the construction forward. Their effort was joined and supported by the Local Government Unit of Lagayan, Area Coordinating Team (ACT) Lagayan, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Barangay LGU.
“Malaki ang naitulong ng bayanihan activity sa aming komunidad dahil napabilis ang paggawa ng drainage canal at mas naging aktibo ang pakikilahok ng mga residente. Naging maayos din ang pagtutulungan ng barangay, volunteers, at iba pang stakeholders,” (“The bayanihan activity helped our community a lot because it sped up the construction of the drainage canal and made residents more active in their participation.
