Though it was never fun to commute to work or classes, the series of rains have only made the experience much worse. Most of us do not have private cars nor the money to ride a taxi on the way to the city center. Especially so for those who live far away from their workplaces and schools the commute has only gotten more miserable these past few weeks.
These workers and students are put in such conditions yet they are expected to show up for work and classes everyday. Class suspensions may save students from the experience but education in turn is compromised and they fall behind. There are only so many days a worker can go without working before he starves and food ultimately runs out. Eventually, they have to go out and provide for their families.
Every stormy season has brought the same miserable experience for ordinary Filipinos. Wet, despair, and hopelessness. Surely we are nearing our breaking point. Because these rains will come back year after year, stronger than before. Come next year then we are on the same jeepneys huddled with others while everyone is tired and miserable. Surely, the time is coming when we all say we have had enough and we take to the streets once more.**
