SAGADA, Mountain Province, Nov. 3 (PIA)– The Department of Energy is set to conduct a seminar- forum in this mountain resort on November 7 as part of its promotion of energy sector innovation through the use of alternative fuels and energy technologies.
The seminar forum that targets around 150 sectoral and community leaders aims to create greater awareness and appreciation of the importance of cleaner alternative fuels and energy technologies and efficient utilization of energy.
The activity is spearheaded by the DOE Alternative Fuels and Energy Technology Division whose programs include the Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport (NGVPPT); the E – trike project, a three–wheeled vehicle fueled by electricity (battery) instead of gasoline, and the auto – LPG as fuels for vehicles and generators.
For the Seminar forum, the DOE information and education campaign will focus on the Auto – LPG Program that aims to diversify the country’s fuel sources particularly in the transport sector wherein aside from encouraging public and private partnership to develop market supply and infrastructure, the wider use of LPG as an alternative fuel can also help address the concern on air pollution.
It will also tackle NGVPPT which can enhance energy supply in the transport sector through fuel diversification using the indigenous Malampaya natural gas for a clean alternative fuel.
The DOE market transformation program wherein through the introduction of electric vehicles, the energy department aims to deploy 100,000 locally made e–trikes to key cities and municipalities nationwide will also be presented.
DOE, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency, already conducted a similar forum in Oslo Cebu. After Sagada, it will also visit Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Other schedules include Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur, Kidapawan North Cotabato, Vigan, Masbate and Mandaue, Cebu.**JDP/CCD-PIA CAR
