Spring greets the bear from his cave and prepares for him a fresh abundance of salmon. Gone are the cold and lifeless surroundings as life springs up from the ground and mother earth breathes her first. Yet, the howls of winter still echo, as the cold lingers. But it is an uphill battle as the knocks of summer will come around soon enough. Yet, just for this time, spring remains uncontested.
Life moves on in seemingly perfect weather, not too hot, and not too cold. And as the days roll by, sweat starts to trickle in from that spring weather. The sun gets pumped up, and the heart starts to work a little harder. Suddenly, the fun walks start to become a full-on workout. Summer has come, yet the farmers must still work. Under the bristling sun, they still bend their backs, work their bodies, and persevere.
The people will run from that heat and on to the beaches they go. The pools they overcrowd and they’d rather let the salty water cover their bodies than a sweet and sour sweat.
But mercy is not absent as autumn brings the needed chill in a world drenched in sweat. Where countries enjoy the strange color of leaves while others are stuck with the ever-green sight of a marapait. The jackets in the closet are brought out and the dust is brushed off.
Going outside you would notice the change of fashion as North face start to be the trend. Hoodies cover heads, blankets take over at night. Still, autumn gives the chance of a colorful time for most before the white snow envelops the surroundings and cold takes over. It would be back to the cave for the bear and back to the bed for most of us. Whether one stocked up or not would decide if he can relax for some time.
Cold or not nothing would stop a Filipino from going out. From all that white snow, Christmas lights would pierce through all that blandness and bring songs and lechons to families. The roar of the winds has nothing on the voices of Filipinos, much less drunk Filipinos.
Spring represents hope and a new start for most. After the hegemony of cold days, it would be time to start smiling again. But a Filipino will always smile, we may not have spring, though we can always hope anytime of the year.
Summer would be a hard time but it is nothing we haven’t experienced all year long. It would only mean fun times be done while we sweat.
Autumn brings the inevitability of cold once again yet nothing stops a fun time for a Filipino, much less something that hasn’t arrived yet.
Winter comes but Christmas will dominate this country. Smiles bring heat to the house and the laughter bring colors to a never-ending sight of greens and the depressing sight of smog.
We do not enjoy the beauty of four seasons, but our season of happiness is all through the year.
