In order to raise the overall awareness about vasectomy as a safe and effective way for men to prevent unplanned pregnancies, the Baguio City Health Services Office will celebrate World Vasectomy Day starting November 22-26.
According to Project Coordinator Aida Gonzales, vasectomy is an effective family planning method that is done only once and after which there is nothing to be worried about, which is recommended for men who have already reached their desired number of children and do not want to have more.
Gonzales explained that vasectomy is a permanent method of family planning where the vas deferens or the tubes which the sperm cells pass through are cut and tied to ultimately prevent pregnancy, in which there will be no fertilization to happen even if there is sexual intercourse.
Men who have had a vasectomy can still have ejaculation with the same quantity of semen, although it will not contain any sperm cells. A person who undergoes the procedure of vasectomy will not affect his overall health and physical capabilities. After a short period of rest, about 2-3 days, they can go back to their regular activities. Vasectomy will not affect a man’s masculinity as the testicles are not removed.
Gonzales added that it is better to have a well-planned number of children and it is also advantageous to the health of the mother.
In a report of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), the total population of the Philippines as of May 2020 rose to 109,035,343 from 100,981,437 in 2015. In 2020, the Commission on Population reported also that a total of 8,085,000 men and women obtained modern family planning to include vasectomy.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook Page “Do It Right”, Ross Rawolle who undergone vasectomy said his sex life was not affected after undergoing vasectomy procedure.
“Wala namang pagbabago, parehong pareho pa rin sa dati. Bonus pa iyong hindi ka na natatakot makabuo ngayon,” Rawolle added.
Rawolle explained that the procedure was simple as compared to circumcision that is more painful, and it was conducted for around 30 minutes.
Those who are interested to know more about vasectomy and / or interested to undergo the procedure, may call Gonzales for more details in her contact number 0950-3313-303.
