BAGUIO CITY – The 109th Charter Day Anniversary celebration of the City this September will focus on culture of creativity in cognizance of the City’s designation as a Creative City in the field of Crafts and Folk Art by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Mayor Mauricio Domogan said this year’s chosen theme, “Celebrating and Moving Beyond 109 through Culture of Creativity,” is timely to highlight the City’s latest feat as the first Philippine city to make it to the prestigious creative circle.
Councilor Elmer Datuin who heads the preparations with City Administrator Carlos Canilao said various activities are being prepared for the whole month of September for the celebration.
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay, a Baguio boy, will be the guest speaker in the traditional program Sept. 1 at the Baguio City National High School gymnasium.
The program will be highlighted by the awarding of the top ten outstanding citizens chosen by the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB) whose names will be announced by the mayor on Aug. 30.
A colorful parade to feature tableau presentations to showcase the City’s evolution will be staged after the program.
Traditional activities include the Miss, Mr. and Little Miss Baguio pageants, the Baguio Day health fair and job fair, concerts, cultural shows and various sports events.
Datuin said a five-day arts and crafts fair is being prepared to feature the arts and crafts products of small and medium arts enterprises possibly at the Malcolm Square.
