BAGUIO CITY – With parking being one of the biggest problems in the country’s summer capital, the city government is eyeing at least six sites for the proposed multi-level and modular parking to alleviate traffic congestion.
City information officer Aileen Refuerzo on Tuesday said among the sites being considered are the site of the former auditorium in Burnham Park, the underground parking of the Baguio tennis court, the Botanical Garden, Wright Park, and an area at the Mines View Park.
The areas are among the favorite attractions visited by tourists, especially on weekends when an influx of tourists is experienced due to the city’s accessibility via land travel.
Using the different expressways, Baguio is only about three to 3.5-hour drive from Metro Manila.
The projects will be undertaken by the city government either through available local funds or through the public-private partnership scheme.
The city government earlier identified priority projects that will address the urban decay situation that came out in a 2019 study by the National Economic Development Authority, among them is the traffic and parking problems. **Liza Agoot
