The city government of Baguio was able to maintain its standing in the recently adjudged Gawad Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan (KALASAG) seal and special awards for excellence in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and humanitarian assistance for the second succeeding year.

Baguio improved its accomplishment from calendar years 2022 and 2023 to get the Beyond Compliant assessment from the Fully Compliant standing in 2021.
Gawad KALASAG is the government’s mechanism in obtaining sustained commitment and support by recognizing exceptional contributions of DRRM practitioners in strengthening the resilience and adaptive capacities of the country.
Baguio was hailed for the existence of its Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (BDRRMP) as well as its Barangay DRRM Committee.
Also, the city government maintained its consistent high score in the Emergency Response Team, organized and pre-positioned stockpiles of relief goods with memorandum of agreements including evacuation sites.
The Gawad KASALAG was established in 1998 led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to honor and recognize stakeholders who champions in promoting and implementing disaster risk reduction and management and climate change adaptation (DRRM-CCA).
Gawad KALASAG mandates LGUs to comply with sets of standards on humanitarian assistance programs that protects and shield high-risk communities against extreme hazards in an aim to capacitate LGUs of addressing their own vulnerabilities. ** JM Samidan
