BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital is rising up the ranks in terms of competitiveness.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that based on the National Competitiveness Council’s 2017 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, Baguio ranked 11th out of 33 Highly-Urbanized Cities in the country or three rungs higher than its 14th place ranking last year.
Quezon City, Manila and Davao held the top three spots while Baguio came just behind Caloocan (9th place) and Cagayan De Oro (10th place) and ahead of Muntinlupa and Cebu cities at 12th and 13th places, respectively.
Meanwhile, Baguio ranked 13th among 145 cities nationwide this year or two rungs higher as compared to its 15th place ranking in 2016. The city is just behind Caloocan (11th place) and Taguig (12th place) but ahead of Naga and General Santos cities at 14th and 15th places, respectively.
The rankings of cities and municipalities are based on the sum total of their scores on four pillars including economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure and resiliency.
Domogan made the announcement in Tuesday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall where he pointed out that the improvement in the ranking is the result of the city’s consolidated efforts highlighting the role of the private sector.
He added that improving productivity allows firms, cities, municipalities, provinces and countries to improve their standards of living and thereby give prosperity to its citizens.**gaby keith
