BAGUIO CITY — More than 1,800 City Hall employees here will be treated to two days of free health and wellness services from Wednesday until Thursday as recognition of their services to the government.
“This is part of the 119th civil service anniversary celebration in Baguio. We recognize the importance of healthy and well employees that is why we do this aside from the annual check-up for the employees,” said Edith Dawaten, the city’s assistant Human Resource Management Officer (HRMO).
This year’s theme is “Upholding Integrity and Building a High-Trust Society”.
Dawaten said the city government is providing medical services to residents such as dipstick, blood checkup, blood sugar screening, dental, derma bone scanning, and health assessment.
The wellness services include massage, manicure and pedicure, heated mat, ventosa services and haircut which were offered in partnership with the Health Services Office and other service providers.
She said the health fair is an annual event to push for healthy workers, boost the importance of a healthy lifestyle among the employees and to protect the human investment of the government by making them health conscious.
Baguio City government has 1,529 regular and casual employees and more than 300 job order and contract of service employees.
The free services will cater to all workers regardless of their employment status.
“Aside from the annual check-up that all city employees must undergo, there is a need to have a follow-up,” Dawaten said.
The annual check-up, which includes blood chemistry, urinalysis, X-ray, mammography and pap-smear for the women, is provided free at the city’s Health Services Office.
In case there is a need to have other tests, which are not available, Dawaten said they refer the employee to other health providers.
“So far, there are few cases in the city hall where there are employees suffering from chronic illness such as kidney ailment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rowena Galpo of the city health services office said they have been doing the activity for the last five years.
“This is a treat for our city employees,” Galpo said, adding that what used to be only health services, the HRMO added wellness activities as an additional perk.
She said when employees are well and healthy, they perform their jobs well and the clients will be provided a good public service.
“Napaka importante na malaman ang health condition ng ating mga empleyado. Kung maayos at healthy ang ating workforce, lalo na sa city government, (It is very important to attend to and know the health condition of our employees because it is translated to productivity). If we become productive, we even can serve our constituents better,” Galpo said.
The annual civil service anniversary of the city government also includes a recognition of the best state workers. **PNA
