The Baguio City Council has enacted an ordinance institutionalizing the Baguio City Parent Academy Program (BCPAP), an initiative aimed at integrating parents into the educational process and fostering a stronger bond between schools and families.
The BCPAP seeks to engage parents actively in the academic journey of their children. This program recognizes the vital role parents play in a child’s education and seeks to empower them with the necessary skills and knowledge to support their children’s learning at home.
“Establishing programs for parents such as the BCPAP will surely help the city government and the Department of Education in sustaining quality education resulting in a progressive and enlivening City of Baguio,” Councilor Cayabas, author of the ordinance, stated.
Under the ordinance, a working committee consisting of representatives from various offices shall be created to primarily formulate guidelines, systems, and mechanics for the implementation of the said program to be presented to the city council for approval.
The Department of Education – Schools Division of Baguio City (DepEd Baguio) shall spearhead the BCPAP and regularly provide updates and progress reports to the city council.
The implementation of the program shall be funded through the Special Education Fund of DepEd Baguio in the amount of P1 million, subject to the regular accounting rules and the auditing system. The funding covers the preparation and reproduction of parent learning guide books; acquisition of appropriate online learning applications; honorarium and/or tokens of resource speakers if necessary; and other operational expenses. **Jordan G.
