LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– Benguet officials are working closely with the national government and the private sector to secure COVID-19 vaccines for the people.
Governor Melchor Diclas said that the provincial government is working with the national government thru the National Inter Agency Task Force against the COVID-19 and the Department of Health in securing vaccines for the province.
Benguet Legislative Caretaker Congressman Eric Go Yap is also coordinating with the national government officials while proposing a partnership with the private sector for the purpose.
Kevin See, Chief of Staff of the Office of the Congressman Eric Yap, reported during the PIATF meeting that the lawmaker has coordinated and made initial talks with Vaccine Czar, Sec. Carlito Galvez to secure vaccines for the province.
The congressman is also reaching out to the private sector particularly the mining companies to partner with his office to help local government units particularly those that are not financially capable to purchase vaccines for their constituents. The proposal is for private companies to not only buy vaccines for their employees, but to donate for other individuals in the community. This way, the private companies while protecting their employees, also help safeguard the welfare of the Benguet people.
He added that they are initially eyeing the Benguet Corporation thru Cong. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for this proposal.
Meanwhile, Diclas called on the different LGUs and the citizens to cooperate with the DOH and the national government for the profiling to be done to ensure that those who are willing to be vaccinated would be included once the vaccine program rolls out.
