LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – – The provincial government is now accepting qualified applicants to the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) carried out every summer break to assist poor students pursue their education.
Governor Melchor Diclas invites interested students and out-of-school youth to apply in the SPES program. Registration of applicants is from January 18 to February 19 and deadline of submission of application form and required documents is on February 28.
This employment-bridging program of the Department of Labor and Employment in partnership with the local government units, aims to provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students, OSYs, and dependents of displaced or would-be displaced workers to augment the family’s income to help ensure that these youth are able to pursue their education.
Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Head Julie Tabcao said due to some age travel restrictions during this COVID-19 pandemic, applicants should be 20 to 30 years old at the time of application. Secondary, tertiary and technical-vocational student applicants should have passing general weighted averages.
Combined net income after tax of parents, including that of the applicant, if any, should not exceed the regional poverty threshold.
The provincial government will be hiring 167 students and OSYs who will work for 30 days in the various offices.
SPES qualifiers will be compensated P498.77 per day to be shared by the DOLE and the provincial government at 40 and 60 percent, respectively. The province has earmarked P1.5 million and DOLE P1M for the SPES this year.
