Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Baguio City Jail Male and Female Dormitory led by JSupt. April Rose Wandag-Ayangwa and JSInsp Joan Bacayan launched the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) with the theme: ‘Makataong Pakikitungo, Matinong Pamumuno, at Matatag na Prinsipyo Tungo sa Maunlad na Serbisyong Pampiitan’ on October 21, 2024 during the city’s flag raising rites.
BJMP launched the ‘Adopt an Alternative Learning System (ALS) featuring the Signing of the Pledge of Commitment to support PDLs in their journey towards education and self-improvement on Oct. 22, 2024. Mountain Province Mayor Marcos Ayangwa and Daughters of Mary Immaculate International (DMMI) adopted the 21 learners.
A showcase of talents of PDLs happened on Oct. 23 at the BJMP Male dormitory to celebrate the diverse skills and creativity of PDLs. DMMI sponsored the competition where PDLs participated in the individual and group categories.
October 24 and 26, the BJMP Male and Female dorm had an open house showcasing products crafted by PDLs from across the region.
On October 25, a Bamboo Training Workshop facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry commenced at the BJMP Male dorm to enhance the livelihood of the PDLs.
Prison Sunday Awareness Mass by the Volunteers in Prison Service (VIPS) occurred on October 27 for a time of reflection and prayer for the well-being of PDLs, personnel, and their families.
Saint Louis University Lawyer Students conducted free paralegal services to PDLs on October 28 and on the same date, the BJMP had a Service Providers Day, honoring the contributions of dedicated partners who work tirelessly to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of PDLs.
All throughout the week, exhibition games, including basketball, volleyball, chess, and darts, fostering camaraderie, and showcasing the sportsmanship and teamwork of PDLs were conducted.
A Culminating Program will also happen on Oct. 28, where the BJMP will celebrate the achievements and milestones of the week and reaffirm their commitment in delivering excellent correctional services.
“Let us come together to make this week a celebration of hope, transformation, and progress in the correctional system. Together, we can make a lasting impact in the lives of those under our care,” JSupt. Ayangwa said during the launching.
NACOCOW is, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 551, series of 1005, declaring every third week of October as National Correctional Consciousness Week.
