Bontoc, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) has assured residents and visitors there will be an ample supply of food, basic commodities, and water during the upcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) Athletic Meet and Culture and Arts Festival 2025.
This commitment was made during a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting held on March 19, 2025, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol. The CARASUC Athletic Meet and Culture and Arts Festival 2025 is expected to draw over 3,000 student-athletes, coaches, officials, and guests from seven state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The CARASUC Athletic Meet is scheduled for March 24 to 28, 2025, while the Culture and Arts Festival will kick off on March 20, 2025. This opening day will coincide with the arrival of candidates for the Mr. and Miss CARASUC titles, along with various pre-pageant activities. To accommodate the influx of visitors, market operations will begin as early as 4:30 A.M., and food establishments are encouraged to remain open until midnight. Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez emphasized the importance of food safety, stating that personnel from the Municipal Health Office will conduct inspections to ensure proper food handling and cleanliness in food service establishments.
In terms of water supply, Municipal Government Assistant Department Head I Julius Rhuel Malafu assured that the water supply in billeting schools, managed by the Bontoc LGU, will remain uninterrupted. He expressed optimism that there will be no water service interruptions during the duration of the event.
For safe and potable drinking water, Dr. Gomez advised representatives from the Mountain Province State University (MPSU) to inform delegates to obtain their drinking water from licensed water refilling stations in the municipality, which have been granted permits by the Department of Health and the Bontoc LGU.
