Bontoc, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Municipal Library, in partnership with various advocates of reading and independent learning, has commenced the distribution of 1,572 books and other educational materials to 15 Barangay Reading Centers and Teen Centers.
Municipal Librarian Chamreine Casiwen highlighted that the program aims to enhance the collection of reading materials in Barangay Reading Centers and Teen Centers, promote a love for reading among children, teenagers, and other residents of Bontoc, and strengthen partnerships between government offices and the community.
The donated books, along with brochures and posters, were generously provided by individuals and groups committed to promoting education and knowledge-sharing within the community.
The activity coincides with the 34th Library and Information Services Month, highlighting libraries’ role in promoting literacy, and supports Republic Act 7743, which mandates Barangay Reading Centers, with the materials encouraging reading and lifelong learning among the community.
The distribution program is being carried out in collaboration with the Local Youth and Development Office, Population Development Office, and youth volunteers who are providing logistical support. ** Christy Mae C. Pangesfan
