The Mountain Collegian (MC), the official student publication of Benguet State University (BSU) emerged as the over-all champion after dominating awards in the individual and group events during the 19th Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) held at Baguio Benguet Community Credit Cooperative (BBCCC) on November 30-December 2, 2017.
They were trailed by The Alternative of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) that landed as first runner-up and The Flame of the Baguio Central University (BCU) that placed second runner-up.
With the theme “#No Filter: Averting False Media Through Ethical Journalism,” MC bagged awards in both the individual and group events among 15 schools in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
For the individual awards, Brendon Bangco-og is the First runner-up in Editorial Writing (English) and Second runner-up in Sports Writing (English), Ronaline Canute is the Fourth runner-up in Developmental Communication Writing (English), Apple Mae Guintodan is the Champion in Feature Writing (Filipino) and First runner-up in Editorial Writing (Filipino), Mac James Dacillo is the Second runner-up in Literary Graphics Illustration (English) and Third runner-up Photojournalism (English), Kezia May Bandao is the Champion in Photojournalism (Filipino), Fatima Waclin is the Second runner-up in Copy reading and Headline Writing (English), Jovie Caimoy is the Second runner-up in Poetry Writing (English), Jonalyn Teofilo is the First runner-up in News writing (Filipino), John Paul Stephen Valdez (BEE III) is the First runner-up in Column Writing (Filipino), Diana Rose Lucban is the Champion in Literary Graphics Illustration (Filipino) and First runner-up in Comic Strip Drawing (Filipino), and Dine Yve Daganos is the Fourth runner-up in Comic Strip Drawing (English).
The winners for the individual events will be representing the region in the upcoming Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) to be held on February 28 to March 2, 2018 at the Supreme Hotel, Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City.
Moreover, for the group events, MC reaped the Over-all Best Broadsheet after landing as the Champion in Best in News Page, Best in Editorial-Column Page, Best in Feature page, Best in Developmental Communication Page, Best in Sports Page and Best in Lay-out. It also garnered the Over-all Best Tabloid after being the Champion in Best in Editorial page, Best in Feature Page, Best in Development Communication Page and Best in Lay-out, and First runner up in Best in News page and Best in Column-Opinion Page.
It also won the First Runner-up Best Newsletter after being the Champion in Best in Developmental Communication Page and First runner-up in Best in News Page, Best in Feature Page, and Best in Lay-out. It is also got the Over-all Best in Literary folio after seizing the Champion in Best in Content, Best in Lay-out and Second runner-up in Best in Cover Page. The magazine also bagged awards such as Fourth runner-up in Best in Sports Page and Best in Lay-out.
