BAGUIO CITY – Students in the Cordillera are scheduled to attend and compete in the 2018 National Festival of Talents (NFOT) on Feb. 19 to 23 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
In a memorandum order issued by DepEd Regional Director May Eclar dated January 5, 2018, it was known that technology and livelihood education-technical-vocational livelihood (TLE-TVL) secondary and alternative learning system (ALS) students were selected at the regional office last year, to join the event.
Participants from Abra, Apayao, Baguio, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mtn. Province and Tabuk City schools division will join other regional delegates to compete in Industrial Arts: Automotive Servicing, Electronics, Drafting, Computer Servicing, Webpage Design, Home Economics, Dressmaking, Beauty Care, and Nail Art.
Competitions are also set for Agri-Fishery: fish processing, fish preservation, landscape; and Bazaar display and service. Participants in this event will prove their mettle in product arrangement and actual customer service.
The national festival aims to “provide opportunity for learners, to showcase talents and skills, exhibit products, services and performance, and an apt opportunity for teachers and learners to explore the culture of the host region,” the memorandum order states.
For the talent and arts portion, there is a Tagisan ng Talino-Interpratibong Pagbasa and Dagliang Talumpati, Manik-anino, Likhawitan, Sineliksik, Pintahusay, Direk Ko Ganap Mo, and Sulatanghal, with a single up to five participants. The Bayle sa Kalye (group dance) wil have 24 participants.
Other participants will compete in the pop quiz, poster, essay, jingle writing and debate competitions.
The festival of talents has the theme: “Pagkilala sa Kulturang Filipino Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Pagkakaisa at Pagbabago.”
The NFOT is done simultaneously with the 2018 national schools press conference where young Baguio journalists will also join. The theme will be “Embracing ASEAN integration: Campus Journalists’ Role in Advancing Inclusive Education.” ** juliegfianza
