BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Police Regional Office – Cordillera reported that the peace and order situation in the Cordillera region remained generally peaceful in the first quarter of the year.
During the recent Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee Meeting, PCol. James Mangili said that the Cordillera region recorded a 12.16 percent decrease of the crime incidents (989) reported in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the 1,126 in the fourth quarter of 2022.
For index crimes, there was a decrease of 51 incidents or 23.18% from 220 incidents of the 4th quarter of 2022 to 169 incidents for the first quarter of 2023. 12.80% . Decrease on non-index crimes and public safety index was also recorded in the first three months of the year.
Abra reflected the highest percentage of decrease on the distribution of crime volume by province while Apayao recorded the highest percentage of increase.
Mangili said the decrease of crime volume was attributed to the continuous conduct of Enhanced Managing Police Operation and the vigorous conduct of Simultaneous Anti Criminality Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO).
He explained that anti-criminality measures particularly the continuous implementation of focused law enforcement operations and enhanced managing police operations are intensified particularly in areas where there are sudden increase of crime incidents.
He added that the continuing engagement of the police force with the community members, stakeholders and other law enforcement agencies is also one of the factors in the maintenance of peace and order in the region.
