BAGUIO CITY – Volkswagen-made vehicles will get relief from the city’s number-coding scheme on Dec. 5-9 in deference to the celebration of the Baguio Volkswagen Week on Dec. 5-11.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan issued Administrative Order No. 155 suspending the implementation of the number coding scheme for “Volks” vehicles on said dates “in recognition of the significance of the event” as declared by the city council in Resolution No. 231 series of 2016.
To enjoy the privilege, vehicle owners will have to just present proof of make of their vehicles such as contained in the certificate of registration to apprehending police officers.
This will be the first time that the said celebration will be held in the City of Baguio which agreed to co-sponsor the activities lined up for the celebration which is part of the Christmas in Baguio calendar of activities.
For its 31st anniversary staging, the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines will hold various activities dubbed “Grand Volks Canao” topbilled by the All VW Classic/Custom/New Generation Car show and other activities at the Melvin Jones grounds and the Lake Drive on Dec. 10-11.
Themed, “Magdradrive ako ng Volks hanggang Baguio,” the group will begin the celebration as they begin their trek to the city on Dec. 9.
Activities on Dec. 10 will begin with a motorcade from Baguio Convention Center at 7 a.m. to Melvin Jones where an uggayam and canao will be held before the opening of the events at 10 a.m.
At 2 p.m., a car competition will be staged until 5 p.m. when the participants will set up their camps for a concert at 6 p.m., fireworks display, after party and night market.
On Dec. 11, a zumba event will happen at 6 a.m. followed by the Sunday mass at 9 a.m., VW vehicle blessing at 10 a.m.
Awarding and closing program will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
The mayor said an estimated over 4,000 chapter members from Manila, Bulacan, Isabela, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Santiago, Laguna, Subic and Iloilo are expected to participate in the event along with their families and friends.
