BAGUIO CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here registered some 5,931 new voters during the two months special registration.
Comelec-Baguio City election officer John Paul Martin said Thursday there were at least 640 registrants for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and 5,291 non-SK or the regular voters who are first-time registrants.
Aside from the first time voters, Martin said 5,195 voters availed of other services such as reactivation and transfer of registration.
With an additional 11,126 voters, Baguio now has more than 130,000 voters.
Martin said the 10,000 target quota for the registration period was exceeded.
Comelec conducted several off-site registration activities in schools, offices, and the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), where 942 cadets and soldiers registered.
Martin said most of the applicants were received during the last two weeks of registration in September.
“We were averaging at that time at least from 500 to 600 clients a day,” he said.
During the last day of registration on Sept. 30, there were at least a hundred applicants who were accommodated.
“We had to cut off the registration on the last day to prevent employees from rendering overtime. They had enough time to register prior to Sept. 30,” Martin said. **Dionisio Dennis, Jr./PNA
