LAGAWE, Ifugao– Ifugao Global Entrepreneurs Multi-Purpose Cooperative (IGEMCO) general manager Godfrey Dominong has proven that one does not need to be an official to help the people in need or a town wanting of vital facilities to promote public welfare.
Nearly nine months after an unsuccessful mayoralty bid in the capital town of Lagawe, Dominong responded favorably to the request of Mayor Martin Habawel Jr. for an endorsement of infrastructure projects.
By endorsing two key tourism-related projects, Dominong is hoping that his action and prayers would help contribute to improving the lives and welfare of the people.
These projects revolve around the construction of the Boliwong-Jucbong-Abinuan tourism road and the Lagawe-Hingyon via Burnay tourism road.
A hand-carried letter to President Rodrigo Duterte was forwarded recently by Mr. Dominong. A similar letter of endorsement was sent to Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo by Dominong.
“I recognized the objective of these projects and that is to promote the well-being of the people in remote villages,” he said.
“Looking ahead, we in the civil society organizations continue our aspirations for economic growth and development,” he added.
Dominong is also the vice president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)- Ifugao Chapter.
In an exclusive interview with the ZigZag Weekly, Dominong disclosed that the IGEMCO was actively pursuing two “breakthrough” goals, namely accelerating poverty reduction and heightening efforts to improve the lives of highland indigenous people’s communities.
These objectives were said to have the biggest impact on fourth-class municipalities such as Lamut, Lagawe and Hingyon, which comprise a significant portion of the province’s populace.
Coincidentally, the IGEMCO has satellite offices in Hingyon and Lamut as well as in Diffun, Quirino province.
Meanwhile, in terms of increasing IGEMCO’s competitiveness, the 7,000-strong Lagawe-based cooperative has attained its goal of providing ample and innovative services to its members. This is in recognition of the dedication of its officers and active support and participation of members.
Presently, the IGEMCO- under the able and strong stewardship of Mr. Dominong– continues to motivate or inspire other cooperatives in Ifugao to improve the quality of services rendered and instill deeper involvement in the cooperative movement. **By Anthony A. Araos
