BAGUIO CITY– The Department of Health in the Cordillera Region (DOH – CAR) reiterates its call to the public to continue protecting themselves from the Coronavirus disease (COVID–19), especially the elderly, the sick and those medically compromised while the country is still working on the national immunization program.
DOH–CAR Regional Director Dr. Ruby Constantino reiterated the public advisory during a Kapihan media forum here, citing the continuing increase in cases especially among those 60 years old and above and those with co–morbidities such as heart disease, kidney problem and hypertension.
Constantino advised this sector to stay at home as much as possible while at the same time, for their household companions to also strictly follow the minimum health standards and safety protocols so as they will not bring home the virus.
As of January 11, DOH – CAR data shows that there are 8,910 confirmed COVID–cases recorded in the region where 815 (9.15 percent) are active; 7,969 (89.44%) recovered and 126 (1.41%) deaths.
With cases still expected to increase, Constantino reminds the public to remain vigilant as she reiterated the importance of avoiding crowded and confined spaces; always wear face masks and face shields; maintain physical distancing and limit physical and verbal interactions.
Aside from COVID–19, Constantino also advised the public to be wary of the cold weather- related illnesses and to keep yourselves warm, keep the immune system at its optimum, have a balanced diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Baguio and the rest of the Cordillera have started experiencing lower temperatures this week with the 10.4 degrees Celsius recorded last January 9 as the lowest for this year so far, Engr. Larry Esperanza of the PAGASA-Baguio Synoptic Station reported. It may continue to drop this month of January, he added. **JDP/CCD-PIA CAR
