BAGUIO CITY – The celebration of Cooperative Month every October has been institutionalized in the city via city council Resolution No. 46 series of 2017.
Authored by Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and Councilor Arthur Allad-iw, the measure mandates the city to provide P100,000 as assistance to the conduct of the activities to celebrate the occasion.
The amount will be appropriated from the budget of the Office of the City Mayor and will be included in the annual budget of the city.
It is in line with Presidential Proclamation Number 493 Series of 2003 (Declaring the Month of October 2004 and Every Year Thereafter as Cooperative Month) mandates the entire cooperative movement to annually to celebrate Cooperative Month every of October.
The declaration encourages wider participation of all sectors of society in nation-building through cooperativism.
In the city, the celebration has always been initiated by the Baguio City Cooperative Development Council which is a tripartite organization created pursuant to Executive Order No. 95, series of 1993 (Designating the Cooperative Development Authority as the Lead Government Agency on Cooperative Promotion, Development, Regulation and Calling on all Government Agencies with Cooperative Programs to Coordinate these with the Cooperative Development Authority and for other Purposes).
“(The cooperative council) has been conducting the annual celebration of cooperative month using their funds obtained from activities of the council and from registration fees collected from participants,” the ordinance notes.
“To inspire more cooperatives to participate in the said event, it is encouraged that funds be provided for the conduct of the said activity benefiting more cooperatives.” ** Aileen P. Refuerzo
