BAGUIO CITY(PIA)– The Cordillera region advances measures to address social challenges with the development of a digital system designed to record data on gender-based violence.
This system called Gender Based Violence (GBV) Data System is pioneered by the Regional Committee Against Trafficking-Violence Against Women and their Children(RCAT-VAWC) to identify policies, activities and programs to respond to issues on trafficking, VAWC, child pornography, and other GBV cases.
RCAT-VAWC members and stakeholders underwent orientation on the salient features of Republic Act 10173 or Data Privacy Act, and the standards of data protection to prepare them for the roll out of the GBV data system.
Due to the sensitivity of the information required by the GBV data system, members need to undergo this orientation to ensure the protection of their clients.
Said activity was held on May 7, 2024 at the City Travel Hotel in Baguio City, and was attended by personnel of line agencies, non-government organizations and provincial local government units.
Information Technology Officer Cleo Martinez from the National Privacy Commission discussed various topics including data privacy principles, data security measures and penalties of data breach, among others.
Martinez reminded the government agencies to strengthen their data protection systems, and to follow mandates of Data Privacy Act.
He also highlighted that each agency is mandated to designate or register a data protection officer who will oversee the conduct of privacy impact assessment, ensure proper data breach and security incident management, and cultivate awareness on privacy and data protection in the organization.
Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera Protective Services Division chief Mary Ann G. Buclao, in thanking the participants, highlighted the importance of collaboration to development.
“Your dedication to this cause is commendable, and I have no doubt that today’s session will contribute significantly to our collective efforts in combatting digital threats, and of course, safeguarding the rights of all individuals especially to those who belong the vulnerable sector” Buclao said.**JDP/ CVBT-PIA CAR
