BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office CAR (DA-RFO CAR) and the city government thru the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) under Dr. Silardo Bested continue to support the Summer Capital’s agriculture sector.
Recently, eight of the city’s Farmers Cooperatives and Associations (FCA) received a total of eight sacks of inorganic fertilizer and 360 bottles of organic liquid fertilizer worth around P310,000.
CVAO chief agriculturist Marcelina Tabelin said the assistance is under the DA’s National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) in partnership with CVAO.
The FCAs are Barangay Lucnab Agriculture and Fishery Association, Panbiyagan Di Umili Organization, Ditep Farmer’s Association, Benin Farmers Association, Buat Balite Farmers Association, Binnadang Smith Organization, Raise Rabbit Raise Livelihood Association, and Granjeros de Oeste Organization, she said.
Meanwhile, the DA-RFO through its NUPAD and in collaboration with CVAO also provided agricultural inputs worth ?350,000.00 to five local schools in support of the ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan Program’.
Tabelin said the beneficiary schools are Baguio City National High School, Crystal Cave Integrated School, Holy Ghost Extension Elementary School, Alfonso Tabora Elementary School, and Magsaysay Elementary School.
The initiative aims to strengthen school-based food production, promote sustainable urban gardening practices, and enhance nutrition awareness among students, she said.**Gaby B. Keith with reports from CVAO
