Bontoc, Mountain Province—The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU), through the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, is now accepting applications and payments from delinquent real property owners, encouraging them to take advantage of the ongoing tax amnesty. This initiative allows property owners to settle their unpaid taxes without incurring penalties.
According to Municipal Treasurer Lourdes Austria, the amnesty applies to real property owners with delinquencies as of June 2024 and past years. However, real property owners who fail to pay their taxes from July 2024 onwards will still pay penalties and surcharges as stated in the new law governing real property tax assessments and valuation.
Austria emphasized the importance of the amnesty, urging delinquent real property owners to avail of the ongoing amnesty, as it will only be available until July 5, 2026.
Under Section 56 of Republic Act No. 12001, also known as the Real Property Valuation and Assessment and Reform Act (RPVARA), delinquent property owners can choose between a one-time payment or an instalment plan for settling their back taxes within two years of the law’s enactment, which extends until July 5, 2026.
Section 56 further stipulated that the amnesty does not apply to real properties that have been sold at public auction to satisfy tax delinquencies, real properties with tax delinquencies that are being paid pursuant to a compromise agreement, and real properties subject to pending court cases for real property tax delinquencies.
Meanwhile, in the implementation of the tax amnesty, the Office of the Municipal Treasurer anticipates collecting at least P5 million from delinquent tax payments covering June 2024 and past years. Relative to this, the Bontoc LGU is reiterating its call to delinquent real property taxpayers to take advantage of the amnesty program. The collected funds will be reinvested into the community through various government services, programs, projects, and activities.
The Office of the Municipal Treasurer is located at the First Floor of the Bontoc Municipal Capitol, and is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., excluding non-working days. ** Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay, Bontoc LGU
