LAMUT, Ifugao – – The Ifugao State University (IFSU) and the Department of Education (DepEd) are joining efforts for the advancement of indigenous knowledge to all stakeholders.
One of IFSU’s mandates as a higher learning institution is to deliver indigenous knowledge and other relevant fields while the DepEd has adopted the Indigenous People’s Education(IPED) Curriculum Framework in recognition to the the right of indigenous peoples to basic education that is culturally rooted and responsive. This includes the inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices and Indigenous Learning Systems (ILS) in the basic education curriculum.
Recently, IFSU President Eva Marie C. Dugyon and Ifugao Schools Division Superintendent Gloria Buya-ao signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for an IP training program for the advancement of indigenous knowledge to the beneficiaries.
Under the MOA, IFSU will be the lead in organizing the training program and collaborate with DepEd, communities and local government units for the design, implementation and evaluation of the training program.
DepEd-Ifugao, on the other hand, will allow selected IFSU teachers to participate in the Ifugao Indigenous Knowledge Educators Training Program; assist and support in the development and generation of learning/instructional materials and provide resources speakers when needed in the spirit of collaboration.
The IFSU has partnership with the National Chengchi University that supports a training program called “Ifugao Indigenous Knowledge Educators Training Program” which aims to build up a core of indigenous knowledge educators at the academe and community-level who will develop instructional/learning materials. **JDP/MBL- PIA, Ifugao
