A depleted University of the Cordilleras Lady Jaguars go up against two time defending champion University of Baguio Lady Cardinals with a much decimated team.
Just a week after the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League kicked off amidst festivities at the King’s College gym, the former champions go up against the league’s strongest team without much of its firepower that made them last year’s top contender.
Even without Darlene Degan and big girl Kathleen Bangtowan, the Lady Jags will also miss top woman Abegail Villanueva who moved to UB at the start of the school year.
“It’s still UB’s year with its line up practically intact,” observed some pundits.
UB will parade top point guard Christy Ramilo and shooting guard Geraldine Lagmay, who were two of the mythical five members of last season.
“We will be just cheering,” said Bangtowan, now an elementary teacher, referring to her friend Degan, who finished her Psychology degree last year. The power forward actually played for one year after spending her first three years at the University of the East as a Lady Warrior.
The two squads meeting will highlight the six game schedule at the Saint Louis University gym at 10:30 AM right after the curtain raiser of host KCP and neighbor Benguet State University where the Amazing Tigers try to bounce back after losing to Cordillera Career Development College.
In other games, it will be SLU’s men’s squad opener as the Navigators go up against Pines City College which dropped a 21-127 opening loss to many time champion UB. The Lady Navs go for their second win as the most decorated squad this decade go up against PMA.
