BAGUIO CITY – The Department of the Interior and Local Government – Cordillera Administrative Region (DILG-CAR) has directed local government units (LGUs) across the region to enhance security efforts in schools as the Department of Education (DepEd) gears up for its 2025 Summer Programs this month.
DILG-CAR Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose has directed City and Municipal Mayors and Punong Barangays to coordinate with schools within their respective jurisdiction in the deployment of barangay tanods in designated areas. She emphasized that deployment of security personnel is limited only to school gates.
“Our LGUs, especially our barangays, must ensure a visible security presence to deter any potential threat. This is also to maintain the safety and security of all students, teaching, and non-teaching personnel,” RD San Jose said.
This directive comes in the wake of an uptick in violent incidents affecting students and school officials, occurring on and off campus.
The DILG-CAR chief further enjoined LGUs to implement other security measures such as regular roving around the perimeter of the school campus and reporting any dubious individuals to the concerned law enforcement agencies.
She also encouraged LGUs to maintain close coordination with the Philippine National Police to facilitate improved coordination and swift action in case of emergencies.
“We have also mobilized our DILG Field Operating Units to ensure the compliance of LGUs. We must make sure that the safety and well-being of our students and school staff are maintained and protected at all times,” RD San Jose concluded.** FFP/DILG-CAR
