BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Health-Cordillera (DOH-CAR) enjoins the public to support and participate in the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) and girls that will run from November 25 to December 12, 2023.
With the core message of “Basagin ang Katahimikan Laban sa Karahasan sa Kababaihan at Kabataan”, the 18-day campaign will focus on its goal to end violence against women and children, and spread awareness about the programs of the government to protect them from abuse and oppression.
DOH-CAR Women and Children Protection Program Coordinator Glenda Dacanay said it is important to advocate the fight against VAWC because women and children play a huge role in society.
“We all know na future natin lies sa ating mga kababaihan at children. ‘Pag hindi natin maalagaan ang ating mga nanay at kababaihan, we could just imagine, ano ‘yung future,” she said.
Dacanay also encouraged the victims of violence to stand up and fight for their rights. She assured that anyone who seeks help will be provided with proper intervention.
“Ang advice ko po ay huwag silang matakot, based sa ating tema na “basagin ang katahimikan”, lumapit sila sa tamang ahensya at i-share nila ang kanilang situation,” she stressed.
The DOH-CAR will spearhead the regional launch of the 18-day campaign on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in Baguio City with a VAW parade from Upper Session Road to the Children’s Park. It will be followed by a simple program and symbolic signing of pledge of support by the local leaders, and a Zumba dance.
During the 18-day campaign, there will be also available services for men such as orientations composed of several modules about how a man can recognize himself, how to take care of their partners, children, and the community.
