It was what that song was all about. Don’t worry, be happy. Take this with what I learned long ago from our yoga group—”The force that guides the stars guides you too”– and really, why should worrying about anything consume us?
Take our heartbeat, for instance, it keeps on going. The heart tirelessly doing its job keeping us alive. And so all other aspects of this world, rather, the whole cosmos. But we do worry as humans. We cannot help it.
When I was rushed to the hospital at dawn more than two years ago, my biggest worry while gasping for air as the cab wended is way through the cold of December was. “Where shall we get the money for medicines and other medical needs if I would turn out invalid?” It could have amounted to millions.
Luckily, we reached the hospital with me still breathing. The diagnosis, kidneys and heart failure. The hospital bills turned out to be very reasonable. Thank you very much BGHMC. It was the cost of the medicines that almost floored me. I still have to take in a fistful everyday. More so with the latest complication requiring me to go for dialysis three times a week.
So, the question again. Where shall we get all the money for the medical expenses? Which brings me back to another thing I realized and validated so many times from our Ananda Marga yoga group. ‘In your darkest time of need, God comes in the form of a friend, a relative or a stranger.’ And He had been coming in various forms or ways. So am still alive.
For those who are unprepared as I am with any kind of health or medical insurance, there is always that last resort. The all-powerful being.
But God is also the God of common sense. If you just squander in vices all your earnings, or don’t care to exert effort to earn at all for future needs, then sorry. You might be given a painful lesson the next time you are rushed to the hospital.
In short, the moral is, live sensibly and you will be OK. There will be times of need as normal people have to go through such. But in your darkest hour, as long as you have not been stupid, He will be there for you. Friends and relatives will come to lend a helping hand. Some strangers might suddenly appear out of nowhere. Or some events will confluence to fish you out of the water in a dark hole.
Indeed, don’t worry, be happy.
