BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Tourism – Cordillera (DOT-CAR) will launch the “Mountain Cook Out Tour” in the region this year.
DOT-CAR Regional Director Jovita Ganongan announced this during her Network Briefing on May 23, 2022.
“We have to really capitalize on the beauty of our nature at tsaka ‘yung kultura, traditional culture na matatagpuan sa mga villages around the Cordillera,” said Ganongan.
This activity will showcase camping sites, ranches, and lakes in the culinary tradition of the different provinces of the region.
“Ang mga tour operators natin, isasama sa tour ang isang magaling na chef, local cook sa community para magkaroon ng learning about culinary tradition and at the same time, matikman din in the tour itself,” Ganongan explained.
Ganongan said that there is an existing Cordillera Culinary Journey but there is a need to include more on food tours.
The Mangan Taku (Let’s Eat) Festival concluded last April wherein chefs from the different Cordillera provinces were invited to showcase their cuisines. This time, Ganongan said that through the Mountain Cook Out Tour, people will be given the chance to visit the places where these cuisines originated.
Ganongan mentioned that one of the emerging destinations in the region showcasing traditional food production, especially the heirloom rice, is a community in Dangtalan, Pasil, Kalinga where one can also witness other preserved traditions of the community. **JDP/DEG-PIA CAR
