BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the repairs of some portions of the historic Kennon Road before Holy Week.
“I would have to push our new Regional Director and District Engineer to make sure na maayos iyun before the Holy Week, kasi nag-one way pa din ang traffic sa segments na iyun,” Dizon said during a press conference here on Saturday, February 28.
The secretary said that he noticed that at least two to three areas along Kennon Road need immediate attention to ensure the convenience and comfort of the public using the road that leads to Baguio City and Benguet, and also to ensure that the damages would not worsen.
“Noong umaakyat po ako ng Kennon, mayroon pa akong nakitang dalawa o tatlong problematic segments; kailangan maayos iyon,” Dizon said.
He identified the acrow bridge and bypass road at Camp 2 and the road slips along Camp 4 and Camp 5 as areas needing the immediate repairs.
While there is already a feasibility study and a masterplan for the Kennon Road, there is a need to complete the repair works of the identified areas at the historic road the fastest time and way, he said.
Dizon added that he will also look into several projects in Kennon Road including the rock shed and the rocknetting projects which were visited by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Mayor Benjamin Magalong last year.
“Kailangan maayos iyun dahil pag hindi naayos iyun nang tama baka masira na yun nang tuluyan at baka masasara na naman ang Kennon Road,” Dizon said.
Dizon was guest speaker at the grand street dancing parade and program of the Baguio Flower Festival over the weekend. He said that aside from this, he would also look into the state of the roads and bridges in the Cordillera region especially the major roads leading to the city of Baguio.
Dizon, with Mayor Magalong, Atty. George Fukai from the local government of Tuba and new DPWH-CAR Regional Director Edith Babaran conducted inspections of some of the identified areas in Kennon Road on Sunday, March 1. **JDP/ RMC- PIA CAR
