01 October 2022 – Violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 continues to be the top crime committed by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Baguio City Jail-Male Dorm (BCJ-MD) as of September 23 this year.
This was reported by Jail Supt. Mary Ann Ollaging-Tresmanio during the 3rd Quarter City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), Sept. 27, held virtually via zoom and presided by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, CADAC chair.
She said the BCJ-MD currently has a total jail population of 435 PDLs with 275 locked-up for violating RA 9165; 49 for rape; 32 for murder; 12 for homicide; and 10 PDLs for acts of lasciviousness in relation to RA 7610 (Act providing for stronger deterrence and special protection against child abuse), as the leading crimes committed.
A total of 226 Greyhound Operations where jail cells are checked for illegal drugs and other contraband were jointly conducted with operatives of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Tresmanio disclosed that the regular operations yielded no illegal drugs or any other contraband inside the BCJ-MD so far.
She said that Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) staff conducted surprise drug testing on 73 of her office’s personnel and 84 PDLs for the 3rd quarter of this year whose results will still be known.
From July to September this year, Tresmanio said 71 PDLs have been undergoing face-to-face outpatient drug treatment and rehabilitation (ODTR) and 50 face-to-face drug dependency examination (DDE) at the BGHMC.
She said that 15 PDLs are currently undergoing jail community service for seven months as part of their phase 2 of the ODTR after care program. **Gaby B. Keith
