Championing business and consumers and engaging the private sector and government to include LGUs are mandates that the Department of Trade and Industry-CAR is pursuing as it looks forward to a more prosperous region. Mandated to serve as the main economic catalyst that enables innovative and job generating inclusive businesses, and to empower consumers, DTI-CAR is set to help scale up the region’s economic growth by helping MSMEs scale up their operations as well as encouraging new businesses to be set-up in the region.
During a recent management conference held in Baguio City, DTI provincial officials from the region’s six provinces led by Director Myrna P. Pablo brainstormed and discussed the current and upcoming activities that focus on the agency’s key development goals.
Diskwento Caravans were earlier undertaken in the provinces and preparations are being done for the Consumer Welfare Month, set for October by the ConsumerNet with DTI as the lead agency for 2017. Efforts are likewise underway for engaging consumer organizations and trade organizations in enhancing consumer education and vigilance.
The scheduled Luzon Island Coffee Cluster Assembly which will happen in Tagaytay City this September 12-13 will be attended by DTI-Mountain Province Provincial Director Juliet Lucas who will likewise represent the food industry sector of CAR.
On September 19, 2017, DTI-CAR officials will usher LGU representatives for the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) awarding ceremony on competitiveness.
A business counselor’s forum “SBCC105: Access to Finance” will be held in Baguio City on September 25-29, 2017 in collaboration with the UP Institute of Small Scale Industries.
Dir. Pablo and Alvira Reyes of Coffee Alliance will fly to Singapore on September 26-28, 2017 to participate as Philipine Coffee Industry Cluster representatives to the Tea and Coffee World Cup Exhibit in Singapore.
Negosyo Centers will be launched in Lagangilang, Abra and Pinukpuk, Kalinga within September to October.
About 33 MSMEs will undergo product development intervention as part of the OTOP Next Gen Program.

Other activities for October includes a Bamboo Benchmarking in China to be participated by OIC Provincial Director Renie Ramos and Carlo Balneg of Abra. Likewise, MSMEs shall participate in the National Arts and Crafts Fair 2017 in Manila with Coffee Pavilion by DTI-CAR Trade Promo Officers.
The Regional MSME and Shared Services Facility (SSF) Summit will be held in Baguio on October 19-20, 2017. The IMPAKABSAT Trade Fair 2017 will be held in Alabang Muntinlupa on November 17-26, 2017, followed by the Regional Convergence Convention in Baguio City on November 29, 2017.
DTI-Benguet will take part in the Adivay Festival Agri-Fair and Diskwento Caravan in the municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet by the 4th week of November 2017 and DTI-Apayao will have a Diskwento Caravan in Pudtol, Apayao on the first week of December. DTI-CAR Trade Promo Officers will also assist CAR traders who are participating in the National Trade Fair 2017 which will happen in Manila on December 6-10, 2017.
In time for the yuletide season, DTI-Ifugao will have a pre-Christmas selling fair in Lagawe, Ifugao, DTI-Mountain Province will mount a crafts expo in Bontoc, DTI-Kalinga will have its Christmas bazaar in Tabuk City and DTI-Abra will support Abra’s Season of JOY Christmas Bazaar 2017 in Bangued, Abra.
DTI-CAR is also set to honor the 2017 Bagwis Awardees and conduct provincial and regional conventions in November.
