A photography and on-the-spot painting contest with coffee as a subject and coloring medium will be held in the Cordillera Administrative Region as a promotional support to the 2nd Philippine Coffee Conference scheduled this November in Baguio City.
Jointly initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture, said contests are open to all interested artists and photo shooters who are 18 years old or older by November 2016 and are currently residing within CAR. Prizes at stake for the painting contest are: P20,000.00 for the First Place, P15,000.00 for the Second Place and P10,000.00 goes to the Third Place winner.
For the photography contest, the chosen winners will receive P10,000.00 for 1st Place, P8,000.00 for 2nd Place and P5,000.00 for 3rd Place. Consolation prizes will be given to deserving finalists and all contestants will receive certificates of participation.

The on-the-spot painting contest is slated on November 19 and all participants must proceed to the DTI-CAR Regional Office at Carino St. at 8:AM for registration, entry numbering and final briefing. Finely ground dark and brown coffee will be made available to the artists, however, they must bring their own brushes. Except for a pencil that may be needed for sketching, the use of other coloring mediums will not be allowed. Both contests will be judged based on general criteria like creativity, visual impact and relevance to the theme which is ”Nurturing the Coffee Industry Towards Sustainability and Inclusive Growth”.
For the photo contest, submitted entries must have been taken by the entrant from October 17 to November 17 within the region and it must depict coffee and conform to the said theme. Each participant is entitled to only one entry which must be free from any alterations, embedded caption or watermarks. Image quality is an important factor to the contest and each entry must technically conform to at least 12”x18” of high resolution photo enlargement.
Particulars who want to know more about the coffee industry in CAR may coordinate with DTI or DA for referrals and whereabouts of coffee growers and processors in their respective places.
All photo entries must be submitted by e-mail to CAR@dti.gov.ph and joelarthurtibaldo@dti.gov.ph on or before November 17 indicating the complete name of the photographer, address, contact number and title of the photo. The camera generated file name and security information of the photo must not be changed or altered and sent in its original code like DSC_0001.JPG or IMG_1234JPG. If the judges determine that the submitted photo has alterations and digital enhancements like colorization and element addition, they reserve the right to disqualify it. Minor cropping is allowed, however, images shot by mobile phones and tablets are discouraged as outputs from these gadgets may lack the required quality specification
Judging will be done by highly qualified jurors in both painting and photography and the selected entries will be announced via correspondence or telephone call. The winning works will likewise be exhibited at the lobby of the conference venue and used to promote the coffee industry in the Cordillera. Not eligible to join the contest are relatives of (DA) and (DTI) employees up to third degree of consanguinity or affinity.
