Bontoc Mountain Province– THE Department of Trade and Industry here joins the National Consumers Affairs Council in the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month this October 2016.
This month long celebration is being participated in by different agencies involved in consumer protection with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as host agency for this year with the theme “Consumer protection: a shared responsibility.”
To start with the celebration, a kick-off activity was conducted at the provincial capitol on October 3 followed by a motorcade around the main roads of Bontoc on October 5 led by DTI together with the Departments of Health, Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources; National Food Authority and Mountain Province Electric Cooperative Incorporated and other agencies.
Leading the motorcade is the police mobile of the Bontoc Municipal Police Station.
After the motorcade, a Kapihan with the press was conducted at the DTI Office in Bontoc.
DTI Provincial Director Juliet Lucas disclosed in an interview that “Hindi lang DTI ang involved sa consumer protection, it is a shared responsibility primarily on the part of the consumer.”
“We are heightening the protection of consumers against unscrupulous activities among our traders, foremost is the profiteering, we also have cartel and then we also have hoarding. These are the things that we would like our consumers not to be suffering from, so that is why we have the role of the consumer protection.”, Lucas added.
