Stressful high prices
With the recent agreement among OPEC members and some non-members like Russia to lower oil production so prices would rise, we are in for hard times in the coming years. Already, prices of gasoline, diesel and other OPEC juice have been steadily rising. From the low P20s per liter of diesel fuel, it is now in the mid P30s. Gasoline is now more than P50.00 per liter.
Prices of everything else will go up as all this needs petroleum fuel to produce or to ship to consumers.
There is no relief in sight until cheaper ways of pumping out oil under the surrounding seas of countries with known big offshore reserves like Brazil are found; or cheaper fracking ways to get the oil from below the ground of so many areas in the United States; or until our renewable energy programs become better and widespread to give OPEC oil a healthy competition in supplying our appetite for energy.
Meantime, we must cope with the brunt of high prices. (More so that Du30 just declared an all out war vs the NPAs). Some ways of doing it is to earn more, or save more, or to do both. One way of earning more is to be in the professions or in lines of businesses that enjoy a boon during hard times.
Thus health professionals can shift their direction to areas dealing with the effects of stress. Nothing can be more stressful than having to deal with the effects of hard times. How about putting up stress management spas, or massage or acupuncture centers, or becoming a supplier of blood pressure maintenance medicines, or establishing a company offering stress-busting weekend activities to corporate executives like trekking, swimming, yoga, etc.?
For those in professions that thrive on the effects of difficult times, they will make a killing these coming years. Lawyers for instance will have a lot of mortgage foreclosure cases, and repossession of cars and other machineries. Usurers and lending institutions will also have a heyday as many people would be scrounging for cash to meet commitments or basic needs.
As in every other situation, God would be smiling on those who have been preparing for such eventualities.**
