BAGUIO CITY — The Environment Management Bureau – Cordillera is encouraging the public to participate in the Christmas tree making contest made of recycled materials reflecting environmental awareness in celebration of the Christmas season.
EMB-CAR Regional Director Reynaldo Digamo said that the environment-friendly Christmas tree making contest dubbed as the “Punong Pamasko: sa Basura Nabuo” aims to promote the use of recycled materials turned into beautiful decorative pieces and other decors.
The theme of the tree should revolve on solid waste management, clean air, and climate change consciousness and adaptation.
The Christmas tree including its decors must be 100 percent made from recyclable materials. No commercial materials or real trees shall be used. However, commercial Christmas lights maybe used for lightings.
The maximum height of the Christmas tree from the ground should be 10 feet and the minimum is 8 feet with radius not exceeding 3.5 feet. It must be set up as a freestanding structure and to be displayed in an outdoor environment. Contestants must ensure that their trees and ornaments are weather-proof.
Interested individuals, groups or organizations who want to join the contest should register with the EMB-CAR Regional Office located at the DERN-CAR Compound, Gibraltar, Baguio City.
Official entry forms may be obtained from the EMB-CAR Office or downloaded from the EMBCAR website (car.emb.gov.ph) and Facebook Page (Emb Cordillera Region).
Only ten entry forms submitted before 5:00 PM on November 27, 2018, Tuesday, shall be considered by EMB CAR. Entries shall be submitted personally or by any representative to the EMB-CAR Office, and have it officially received by the receiving clerk at the Office of the Regional Director. All qualified entries will be officially notified.
Participants should start to set up their entries on December 1 until December 6 at designated areas within the grounds of the EMB DENR CAR. No changes or modifications may be made after it has been set up. Only minor adjustments or changes arising from malfunctions or accidental mishaps maybe made, and with the approval of EMB CAR.
The Christmas tree entries will be lit up simultaneously on December 7 during the DENR Sporstfest Culminating Program, thereafter, from 7 pm to 12 midnight every night for the entire month of December.
Final judging and awarding will be on December 18, 2018.
Cash prizes and certificates shall be awarded: 1st Place – PhP 50,000.00; 2nd Place – PhP 35,000.00 and 3rd Place – PhP 20,000.00. Non-winning entries shall receive consolation prize of PhP 5,000.00 each and a Certificate of Appreciation. **JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
