As a result of the intensified anti-terrorism campaign of PRO Cordillera, a male former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered, and an explosive cache belonging to the CTG was discovered at Sitio Agura, Barangay Malibang, Pudtol, Apayao, on December 13, 2023.
Based on the reports submitted to PRO Cordillera Regional Director, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR, the former CTG member was identified as a 57-year-old farmer, a resident of Purok 4, Malibang, Pudtol, Apayao, and a member of the West Front Committee, KOMPROB Cagayan, KR-CV.
After a series of negotiations, the former CTG surrendered to the operatives of 1st Apayao Provincial Mobile Force Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit-Apayao PPO, Regional Intelligence Division (RID) -PRO Cordillera, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)15, Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 14, Pudtol MPS and Provincial EOD and Canine Unit (PECU) Apayao. During the interrogation conducted by the operatives, he disclosed information on the location of an explosives cache.
Acting on the said information, immediately, joint operatives of Apayao PPO, RID-PRO Cordillera, RMFB15, RIU-14, and PECU-Apayao proceeded to the said place and recovered the following items: Fuse Time Commercial-226 ft; two pcs Grenade Rifle, M76 HE (High Explosive); One pc Grenade rifle, M76, HE w/o pin; one pc 60mm Cartridge, HE; three pcs Handheld Radio (Baofeng); and two pcs radio chargers.
The former CTG member is now under the custody of the 1st Apayao PMFC for the documentation and debriefing process.
