It was more than two decades ago when I encountered male individuals undergoing artificial sexual organ enlargement. A certain gel is injected around the skin of the penile organ which makes it look big. Maybe it is to impress their sexual partner or to compensate for their inadequacies. Some have metal balls implant perhaps to create more friction during the sexual exercise.
It was after a medical conference when a much younger colleague related his recent surgical experience. It is routine for medical centers to weekly discuss cases especially rare ones encountered for learning purposes. Confidence, however, is strictly adhered to and details are for MDs only.
The patient had a “gel injection” using a KY Jelly which most practicing MDs use for purposes like in lubricating their fingers during a rectal examination. He was mum who did the injection but obviously, he was not satisfied so that he had it removed eventually by another MD. The MD made an incision and scraped and washed the jelly out. His organ remained swollen and reddish with pain but he was assured that it was just due to the surgical procedure. After five days, however, he noticed pus coming out from the incision site. He just took antibiotics but the pain persisted and his penile skin began to darken. Gangrene was setting in and his penile skin began to necrose. He was then constrained to consult the surgeon.
The necrotic skin has to be removed and debridement was done. Because of the infection the wound was left open. The surgeon was hoping that the remaining skin edges would be coaptated comfortably when the infection is controlled otherwise skin grafting would be done.
I am just mentioning this rare complication to warn individuals interested in this artificial penile enlargement.
AUNTIE ERLITA
Although the birthday celebrant resides in Acop, Tublay, her 80th birthday celebration was held at D and L Restaurant at Km 5, La Trinidad. Her four professional children invited all her very close relatives and friends and it turned out to be a mini reunion.
Erlita Colilen Aoay is from Besao, Mtn. Prov. who married a late uncle of mine, Samuel who is a native of Acop, Tublay so that I always call her Auntie. All her children namely Helen Ayeo-eo, Juluis, Sonia and Cynthia Yaris were all going around entertaining all the present well-wishers of the celebrant. Lively line dancing were done by two separate groups of ladies with one group in their lavish cowboy boots and hats. Some gentlemen serenaded her with old songs while some individually danced with her practically embracing each other with minimal movement but with profuse tears flowing down their wrinkled cheeks. Auntie Erlita obviously was deeply touched and happy.
A table of elderly men who originally cannot recognize each other suddenly knew each other when their names were mentioned. It was probably a decade or more when they last met each other and their features were greatly modified with age and hard work. It was really a get together and everyone were hoping that another celebration like this would be held in the coming years as they shouted Happy Birthday manang Erlita.
