All good things must come to an end, as evidenced by the coming of Monday after the Undas season.
People must go back to work and back to their normal schedules. Students will now be reminded of cold early mornings, and how it feels like to bathe when the sun is still barely up.
It had been a fun time surely for most during the past week, apart from the long lines in the bus station.
To spend time with family is the best bulwark against an encroaching burnout that lies in waiting everyday.
Everyone of us deserves to have a break once in a while. For the many who went back to the country side, the lungs must surely be very thankful. And the weary heart grateful to be among loving family.
In our respective provinces, therein lies for most of us the base that holds up a great character. The place where it all began. Where we were molded by strict parents and tough leather belts or hard wooden sticks.
Of course, all that we had experienced played a part in who we are today. But the beginning where we started will always mark our starting line.
And no matter where we are at the point in our lives, I’ve come to learn there is always a lesson to be learned back home. Whether it is the reminder of what it feels like to be among loving family, or the lesson of appreciating what we have been blessed with, home will always have something in store for us.
Now that the long weekend is over, just like birds, we must once again fly out of our nests. Discover the seemingly endless sky, fall down to the ground and fly once more. It is never easy leaving the comforts of home. But to be burdened by regrets is something much worse.
The outside world will not always be kind, and a person can only take so much hit. But a great character cannot be molded solely inside of a house. It is not always easy to accept that.
All that we are now is because of what we have gone through. And all that we will be in the future will be because of the trials we will take on.
Nevertheless, it won’t be long till Christmas season comes along. And we can all go back home once more.
The lines would surely be longer and Baguio will get colder, but all that we have experienced will surely help us go back home as a more matured person. And possess a character that has seen more of the world outside the nest.
Home is where the heart lies, and to mature in this wide world can help us better appreciate the true values that home can offer.**
