Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan has constituted the Provincial Historical Committee tasked to write the history of the province including the municipal profiles and past accounts.
Under the Order of the provincial executive, the members of the Committee shall update and document the history of the province from 1967 when the province became separate and distinct from the old Mountain Province which included the Cordillera provinces now, with the exception of the province of Abra.
It should be recalled that the late governor Maximo Dalog Sr. caused the publication of the history book entitled: The New Mountain Province. It contained the Spanish, Japanese, and American historical past until 2010 during his administration.
Now, the book in the making will start from 1967 up to 2020, a decade from the end of the earlier version to highlight also the programs, projects, and activities of the past and present provincial administrations.
Inclusions will be the list of political leaders, elected and appointed, from 1967 to 2020 highlighting their salient accomplishments that contributed to the progress and development of the province and municipalities.
Since it will include the municipalities, selected members of the Committee were assigned to handle the municipal histories.
To equip the members with the necessary knowhow and competence, the Seminar on Technical Writing was conducted for them with Fullbright scholar Doctor of Education Mark Preston Lopez and Dr. Obie Noe Madalang, both working at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, as resource persons.
Although some have already started their work, they will have to conduct interviews with people knowledgeable with the past accounts and leaders of the municipalities and improve the written municipal profiles.
The provincial history is much rigid as records and primary sources may not be available especially on some past governors and provincial administrations.
Governor Lacwasan committed to provide for the expenses to be incurred, most specially the printing cost of the book which are intended to be distributed to barangays, schools, and offices around the province.
The members of the Committee are all provincial government personnel who possess research and writing abilities.**Roger Sacyaten
