LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –The Department of Health (DOH) Cordillera in partnership with this municipality launched an event dubbed as “Happy Teeth, Happy Feet”, and an Eco-walk fitness activity coupled with lectures linking health to the general wellness of the body at Mount Kalugong in this capital town Friday, in celebration of the National Dental Health Month.
Dr. Anabelle Bawag, DOH oral health program manager, said the activity aims to increase awareness and encourage support to the oral health program as an integrated component of health in all life stages.
Oral health disease prevention is important across all the life stage, a healthy teeth and a healthy diet makes a healthy smile. We should go back to basics by brushing our teeth properly,” Bawang, a dentist said.
Dr. Frederick Mars Untalan, consultant, Otorhinolaryology at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, lectured about oral cancer.
Vice Mayor Joey Marrero reminded the senior citizens to stay health and enjoy aging gracefully.
“Walk more every day, climb more mountains and eat proper food to keep you young and healthy,” Marrero said.
Dental kits containing toothbrush and toothpaste were distributed to the more than 200 participants who hiked and performed a zumba dance exercise.
The event started with the participants composed of child development workers, women’s group, health workers, elderlies, children and oral health partners and advocates hiking to Mount Kalugong which is popular for its beautiful limestone formations, scenic views and eco park.
The annual National Dental Health Month celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 559. This year’s Dental Month celebration theme is “Ngipin na Malusog at ProtektaDOH, Madaya at Maningning na Ngiti ang Hatid sa Mundo.”**JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR
