LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, –The concerted efforts of individuals, groups and institutions was a success as more than 100 health enthusiasts danced to the ‘Beat of Hope’ on June 23 here in an attempt to promote healthy lifestyle amongst the well and ill.
Spearheaded by the Ribbons of Hope in partnership with the municipal government of La Trinidad, the activity was also intended to raise funds for six identified members of the Ribbons of Hope who recently underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
This complemented the municipal government’s efforts and as part of the extension activities of the Benguet State University(BSU) on healthy lifestyle and cancer awareness promotion, said Ribbons of Hope and the Nutritionist-Dietitians Association of the Philippines (NDAP)- Baguio Benguet Chapter President Imelda Degay.
Participants who came early started with a music meditation rendered free by the Community Assistance for Responsible Existence (CARE) arm of the Science of Identity Foundation (SIF) which envisions the development of enlightened, happy individuals and communities through various programs cultivating wisdom, spiritual love and compassion.
Thirty five participants also availed of the free acupuncture service carried out by the same organization which is coordinated locally by Mary Kipas-Salazar.
Zins from the Galatians 5:14 Movement prepared the tickets and led the two-hour Zumba with Dr. Lawrence Caranto from the BSU College of Nursing leading, Degay added.
The Ribbons of Hope is an organization of La Trinidad-based cancer survivors and patients with the primary goal of enhancing awareness on cancer and promoting nutrition and healthy lifestyle causes.
The conduct of activities by the Ribbons of Hope is made possible with support from the La Trinidad Municipal Government particularly the Nutrition Unit, and other generous individuals and groups.
The BSU has also been allowing the use of its facilities and equipment. Degay, one of its faculty members, has been spearheading the conduct of various activities as part of her extension services and, at the same time as president of the Ribbons of Hope and the NDAP Baguio-Benguet Chapter.
