Hedcor, a subsidiary of AboitizPower, celebrates its 40 years in the hydropower industry with the commissioning of the 68.8-MW Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 and 2 in Bukidnon. The P12.5-billion project is designed to have two cascading plants, the 43.4 MW Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 and the 25.4 MW Manolo Fortich Hydro 2.
Like any institution, Hedcor started from the ground up. Its humble beginnings started forty years ago when it started as a team from Davao Light and Power Company that contracted to operate the government-owned Talomo Hydros in Davao City.
From small beginnings, Hedcor operates 21 run-of-river hydros in Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Mtn. Province, Davao del Sur and Davao City. This year, Hedcor is commissioning the 68.8 Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 and 2 in Bukidnon.
“A Better Future Through Clean and Renewable Energy”— A clear vision statement that drives Hedcor to aggressively amplify its renewable portfolio in support of the Philippines’ National Renewable Energy Program that aims to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Hedcor’s hydropower plants, situated beside rivers, inspired an unconventional yet environment-friendly and community-beneficial hydroelectric generation: the run-of-river power production. Run-of-river harvests energy from flowing river water
Host communities of these plants experience directly the impact of our operations. For many years now, Hedcor has been collaborating with these small communities by empowering them through social, educational, scientific, and technological development.
In fact, the programs and efforts of Hedcor go beyond the concept of corporate social responsibility. Collaboration and concern is part of the cycle, establishing a mark that is similar to that of a family. A wide community of scholars, kilometers of roads and pathways installed, and many buildings and classrooms turned over to host communities is just the tip of the iceberg of the partnership between Hedcor and its host communities.
These communities testify to Hedcor’s commitment to inclusive growth, looking beyond profitability and to constantly explore better ways to integrate social development and environment stewardship into its operations.
Hedcor is the run-of-river hydropower arm of AboitizPower operating 21 power facilities in the country with a total rated capacity of 245 megawatts. By advancing business and communities, Hedcor envisions ‘A Better Future’ through Cleanergy, our brand for clean and renewable energy.**
