The Municipality of Tuba, Benguet was recently awarded the Seal of Good Governance by Synergeia Foundation for how the local government was able to provide equal access to good education to hundreds of Indigenous People (IP) children.
During the awarding ceremony, Hedcor’s Vice President for Corporate Services, Noreen Vicencio emphasized the value of partnership in improving the education landscape.
“Education is close to the hearts of Hedcor and the Aboitiz Group because we believe this is key to advancing businesses and communities. We are very grateful for this partnership with Synergeia, and the leadership of Tuba,” said Vicencio.
Hedcor has partnered with Synergeia since 2020 to provide over ten thousand Kankana-ey, Ibaloi and Bagu IP children from its host communities in Tuba, La Trinidad, Sablan, Itogon, and Bakun in the Province of Benguet, with quality learning opportunities. Synergia, in turn, recognizes local government units that are able to maintain transparency, accountability, and efficiency while improving the learning environment of its community.
This partnership is especially timely with the new learning methodologies that emerged due to the pandemic. Some of the recent collaborations of Hedcor and Synergeia include the launch of the Paaralang Bahay portal where educators can download videos and e-copies of materials in teaching Reading, Good Morals and Right Conduct, and Math.
Another would be the rollout of assessment tests administered to Grades 2 to 6 students from Sablan, Itogon and Tuba to determine whether grade school students are learning through distance education amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
Hedcor has always been proactive in championing education-based initiatives. In North Luzon alone, Hedcor has turned over P33.73M worth of programs centered on education by constructing and refurbishing classrooms, granting of college scholarships, awarding of high school financial assistance, donating school supplies and actively participating in Brigada Eskwela to name a few.
