BAGUIO CITY — Two honest citizens here were recognized by the city government during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds.
The city council recently passed resolutions numbered 119 and 120 commending Juanito Tacio and Dominic Naulgan, respectively, for showing the value of honesty and trustworthiness.
Taxi driver Juanito Tacio returned valuables worth P48,000, a passport with re-entry visa and important documents.
Despite the adversity of life, it never entered Tacio’s mind to take advantage of the circumstances. Instead, he returned the same to his passenger.
“Kahit na mahirap ang buhay, kailanman ay hindi sumagi sa isipan ko na kunin ang pera dahil alam kong may nagmamay-ari nito,” said Tacio.
In the resolution, “the noble deed of Pacio serves as an inspiration to other taxi drivers as well as the constituents of the City of Baguio to practice honesty and trustworthiness”.
On the other hand, Dominic Naulgan, jobless, and a resident of No. 17 Sto. Rosario Valley has displayed honesty by voluntarily returning the lost wallet of Zandro Atanacio.
Accordingly, Atanacio, former employee of the city government of Baguio, and presently employed with the Office of the Solicitor General in Makati City, lost his wallet containing cash, identification cards and important papers upon arrival in Baguio for a vacation with his family last March 18.
In the resolution, “Naulgan’s act of honesty in the midst of economic difficulties is worthy of emulation”.
In his inspirational message, Domogan expressed appreciation to both Tacio and Naulgan for their sincere display of honesty and putting to action the saying “Honesty is the best policy”.
“May your display of honesty be an inspiration to every Baguio citizen to practice honesty in their endeavors,” said Domogan. **Jho Arranz
